ABOUT SUSANA

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website.

For over twenty-five years, I have had the privilege of interviewing thousands of people around the world, all of whom have taught me the gift of sharing from the heart.

My experience as an interviewer was launched in the realm of sensitive topics and deeply personal experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, and as a graduate student, I interviewed hundreds of Spanish-speaking interviewers with newly established residents in the United States about their legal, cultural, and spiritual experiences. Soon after, the opportunity was extended to delve into views of race relations.

I spent the next few decades traveling the globe for corporate, non-profit, and academic research around topics from mergers and layoffs, infertility, shifting governments, mental health and social attitudes, and intergroup dynamics.

Recently, I served as the Director of Workplace Chaplaincy and Ethnography with the Institute for Spirituality and Health (ISH) in Houston, Texas. Here, I directed qualitative research endeavors and established a practice I call Spiritual Ethnography.

I have learned greatly from academic, spiritual, and personal mentors in DC, California, New York, and Texas. My areas of study include Masters of Arts degrees in Sociology and Theology, with training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the NY Presbyterian Hospital, and certifications in crisis intervention, Spiritual Direction, reiki, and grief counseling. I bring the breadth of this perspective into my work as an interviewer—to devote my attention, heart, and analytical commitment to the goals of my client, and to create an enriching experience for the research participant.

As part of my work with teams and organizations, I write, teach, and offer presentations on topics ranging from relationships to group dynamics to ambivalence. I am a RIVA-certified moderator and a Board Certified Chaplain through the Spiritual Care Association, an affiliate of the Healthcare Chaplaincy Network.
